District Unit Convention, Savannah Bahá’í Unity Center, October 7, 2012

On Sunday, October 7, thirty-two Bahá’ís of the Georgia Electoral District Unit #059—including Savannah, Chatham County, Thunderbolt, Richmond Hill, Hinesville, Pooler, Statesboro, Macon, Columbus, Fort Valley, and other Bahá’í communities—gathered at the Bahá’í Unity Center in Savannah to elect a national delegate to vote for the National Spiritual Assembly of the USA. Please click below for a description and photos of the event.

Bahá’í elections are distinct from the divisive electioneering of current party politics. Instead of campaigning for party nominations, they seek to choose capable individuals who are spiritually minded. They are run without electioneering, nominations, or campaigning. After prayerful, private consideration, voters simply choose from among all adult believers resident in their voting unit those whom they believe most qualified for the job. Voting is by secret ballot. Congratulations to Dr. Ray Rudolph for being elected our national delegate this year.

Special thanks are extended to the Local Spiritual Assembly of Savannah for hosting the district convention. Thanks are also extended to following individuals for their supportive roles at the convention: Khani Morgan and Brenda Walker as registration workers; Marylyn Harrison, Ray Rudolph, Barbara Rudolph, and Zach King as children’s teachers;
Tammy King as junior youth teacher; Katie Bishop as librarian; JoNell O’Neal as a lunch preparer, Roger Harrison as photographer; David King as audio man and treasury reporter; Fariborz Zaer and Saad Al-Jassar as assistant tellers; Hugh Adamson as chief teller; Patricia Alston as secretary; Dan Rea as chairperson; Nazrin Zaer as a behind-the-scenes organizer; and Michael O’Neal as Auxiliary Board Member and inspirational visionary.
